About
The Leadership Community of Practice at NC State University is a collaborative initiative led by the Shelton Leadership Center that brings together faculty, staff, and leadership professionals from across the university to advance values-based leadership development. The Shelton Leadership Center envisions being “a leading community of practice in values-based leadership development throughout pre-college, university, and professional communities,” emphasizing values such as personal integrity, professional ethics, and selfless service. This group is working on preparing NC State’s application for the Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose, a prestigious national designation that recognizes institutions demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to developing leadership abilities among students, faculty, and staff in service of the collective public good. Through initiatives like recent CliftonStrengths workshops, the group has created opportunities for higher education professionals to collaborate and “create a more beneficial environment and extend a network” across various functional areas within the university. The Carnegie Leadership for Public Purpose classification process requires institutions to undergo rigorous self-assessment and provide evidence of how they enhance their learning, teaching, and research missions through leadership development aligned with advancing justice, equity, diversity, and liberty in society.
